How fun was that?!? Recently a friend started studying for the CCNA exam and I started thinking that there had to be a way to use a Raspberry Pi to put the console ports on the network. Sure enough, there is a project called ser2net that does just that. You will also need a USB to serial adapter. In fact we only need to add one piece of software to make this project work. Before we can configure ser2net we need to figure out where our serial adapters are listening.

With this information we can configure our ser2net. To edit it you can use nano with is already on your Pi. Inside you will find some default configuration lines at the bottom of the config file. We can easily edit these to meet our needs. For my 4 port serial adapter, going to Cisco routers and switches which use 8N1 serial parametersmy file looks like this.

So this configuration will let us telnet to our raspberry pi on the ports specified.

Those telnet sessions will be forwarded to our serial ports. You can use this setup for anything that has a serial connection. So anyone who knows the connection parameters telnet IPAddress Port will have access to the serial device listening.

I was hoping that later versions would include include UDP. Consider that if your computer has an RS port. You can open that port and connect a cable to it — or not.

If there is no cable, the data sent to that port goes nowhere, and nothing comes in to that port. But when the cable is connected to another device — data can flow. Let me see if i can get it to compile. This was very usefull, thank you. Hi, what version of Ser2Net are you usingI understand there is the ability to,allow multiple connections which is great if you want to share a feed — do you know what version that is and how to upgrade to it?

To update your Pi and install ser2net use the commands below: sudo apt update sudo apt upgrade -y sudo apt install ser2net -y Serial Port discovery Before we can configure ser2net we need to figure out where our serial adapters are listening. So on my mac I can type telnet raspberrypi. Conclusion You can use this setup for anything that has a serial connection. Happy Homelabing!

Fix all of this by upgrading to an SSD drive! Hey folks. Keep in mind that this will require manually editing files and using files from the master branch of the Raspberry Pi firmware. Also this guide tailored towards Linux and Mac users. In order to do this you will have to install Raspbian on an SD card and update the firmware.

To do this reference this video. You'll want to watch up to the part where he verifies the boot loader is updated, around If you already updated your bootloader skip to the next step. Now we need to download the 64bit version of Ubuntu Server for Raspberry Pi 4.

After downloading our image we'll need to install Raspberry Pi Imager. Visit the Raspberry Pi Downloads page and install it on your computer.

Next open Imager. Finally click Write and wait for the process to finish. First we're going to uncompress the vmlinuz file into vmlinux. This is because booting from a compressed 64bit arm kernel is not currently supported. The first string of numbers is the location that were looking for. In this case its right at the beginning of the image. Now use dd to extract the data and zcat to uncompress it into a file. If your number was something other than make sure you put that number as the skip value.

Now that we have the uncompressed image we'll want to update the config.

I had placed about 8 new video files on the drive. In trying to troubleshoot, I had the server reload the libraries, but they never changed. The files are there, just Plex no longer sees them. The drive is NTFS formatted and mounts just fine with ntfs-3g. I can see all the files in their folders when I SSH to the server, but Plex does not see or index them.

Maybe this is out there in some basic Linux training, but I never knew this.

I didn't think it mattered, but in my case it did. I could then re-home my libraries and I'm back up running again. For grins, I had also added the "plex" user into the "pi" group - just in case. Doesn't seem to have affected anything. I also used Daniel Abdilla's guide which was very good, even with installation information which is now out of date. If you can get his PDF, it is rather straight forward. Use of this site constitutes acceptance of our User Agreement and Privacy Policy.

No misleading or non-descriptive titles 9.By doing this you pin the virtual machine to the host. For example with a failover the virtual machine would boot on another host and would not be able to connect to it's USB-device, which is still plugged into the failed host.

To solve this problem several solutions have been around to access USB-devices remotely via the network. In the free trial-version you can connect one device and a popup will be displayed. So for under one hundred dollars you can run a USB-server in your network that also doesn't consume too much power. I have also tested other USB-devices such as a memory-stick and it's simple and easy to use those over the network. You can also use a USB-hub for multiple devices but make sure it's a powered hub if you are connecting many devices to not draw too much power from the Raspberry Pi itself.

How to setup the Raspberry Pi is beyond the scope of this article, the best location to read about how to do that is at www.

For my setup I have installed the Raspberry Pi with Raspbian. What you need to do to make it into a server is load it as a daemon at startup.

Aviation management software

Once it is running it is a good idea to first go into the client and manually connect to one of your devices to see if it works. Once it works it is a good idea to configure additional security to authorize which users or from which hosts you can access the USB-devices.

There is no need to do this, you can setup access to your server based on the IP address. In the config. If you right click the USB Hubs entry in the client there is an option to disable the Auto-Find feature and specify the IP-adress and port of the hub you have installed. As you can see in the image below there is also a feature to automatically attach to the device when the client is started.

Also the client can be started with Windows by adding it to the Startup-menu. If you are going to implement this in your organizations network then you want to control access to your USB-devices. There are several possibilities to control access, based on username, IP-address and which device is being accessed.

In this article I have used the example of specifying the IP-address of the client that is allowed to access the devices on the USB Server. The shell-script is clear and simple so adding your own criteria should not be too much of a problem. In this example the script that handles the authentication is auth. If you need to find out what the vendor ID is or the product ID then you could have a look at the log files where information about the authentication is logged.

With this information you could for example modify the IF-statement with and AND operator to check both the IP-address and the product-ID to allow a specific server to access only one specific device. When modifying the authentication script there is no need to stop and start the daemon, the authentication script is run each time a client tries to connect to a device. Skip to main content. I've set up a Raspberry Pi to act as print server for a Dymo Turbo LabelMaker I did this some time ago using an article from a Dennis Sutanto Technology Blog, but the approach seems basically the same as in the current article.

This setup has been working beautifully for printing labels from a PC. I can't seem to get this setup to work, and I'm not sure what the problem may be!I think some of those methods are a relic from the S-Plus days when most people would work on text terminals. We have much better tools these days for auto-generation of reports and so on, where people can arrange the output in a way that's useful to them.

How wrong they were.

While print advertising was already fading, television advertising was king. It is amazing how much has changed in the world of marketing in just half a decade. We are now in 2017 and influencer marketing is far more than just a buzzword. It has become the de facto way to reach the savvy and cynical youngsters of Generations Y and Z. The influencer model is now maturing, as more refined methods are put into practice, platforms are becoming more iconic, and agencies realize that they need to jump on the influencer marketing bandwagon or else they will be left behind in the marketing Dark Ages.

So, how do we at the Influencer Marketing Hub expect influencer marketing to evolve over the remainder of this year. Here are our predictions for influencer marketing in 2017. Influencer marketing grew out of celebrity endorsement. It would be like trying to use Madonna to promote your range of heavy duty power tools - or Ronaldo to promote your opera glasses.

They are micro-influencers - people who have high engagement and huge followings in a relatively niche area of interest. We believe that 2017 will see a huge increase in the number of brands working with micro-influencers. Big brands will continue to work with celebrities, although even they will try to better align their brands with celebrities who are more relevant to their product.

However, the bulk of brands will focus on working with laser-targeted micro-influencers. Celebrity influencers have always been paid - in many cases extremely well - to promote brands and their products.

Micro-influencers, however, have not always fared so well. To an extent, this is probably because of the organic way that relationships often develop. This is particularly the case when brands use influencers to amplify their own material.

Often this relationship has been built up gradually, perhaps with a few comments on a blog or sharing an influencer's social media posts. Some brands try to speed the process up by providing incentives to influencers to help them out.

This has traditionally been through some form of barter. For instance, brands often provide free products to influencers who review their products. Influencers have become savvier of late, however. Many have signed up to influencer platforms and actively work with brands.
